Matt is a counselor-in-training, working toward his master’s degree at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, with the goal of becoming a fully licensed therapist. He approaches therapy with the understanding that you are the expert of your life, bringing your own story with unique goals and needs to the therapy room. As a fellow traveler with you on your journey of healing and self-discovery, Matt is committed to creating an affirming, inclusive, person-centered, and trauma-informed space that respects and supports people of all identities and abilities, including neurodivergent, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ folks. He believes in the power of connection and creating a sense of belonging to help healing and progress. Before beginning school, Matt worked for several years in public health. From this experience, Matt understands that our background, social environments, and the society in which we live play important roles in how we think, view ourselves, and create meaning in our lives. To Matt, this means taking a culturally humble and holistic approach to therapy as we explore and understand what matters most to you – whether it’s your current or past struggles, your values, your identities, your community, or just trying to find your place in the world. As the wise Laozi (Lao Tzu) described, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” I would love to be there with you as you take this next step of your journey.
As an active person and an avid winter-lover, Matt spends most of his free time going on walks with his wife, running, cross-country skiing, or hiking, in all of Minnesota’s lovely seasons. If stuck inside, he enjoys watching (and over-analyzing) Star Wars, reading sci-fi, and listening to Bad Bunny. But if it’s fall – aka football season – you can find him on Sundays glued to the TV wearing one of his (probably too many) favorite Minnesota Vikings jerseys.
We'll work with you every step of the way. We focus on the whole person, rather than on specific issues and see self-discovery as an active multi-sensory process. Ready to begin? Request an appointment, and we'll match you with a therapist.
